In 1990, Prescription Records’ co-founder Ron Trent released his famed classic ‘Altered States’ on Warehouse while he was still in high school.  Twenty one years later, Trent is still providing the highest quality with releases on famed labels such as Cajual, Distance and Future Vision.  Trent’s rendition is a beautifully arranged soulful, afro-rhythmic gem sure to please fans of Francois K’s infamous Body + Soul parties.

New York’s Master Kev and Tony Loreto aka MKTL drive the mix deeper into the night with a Dennis Ferrer-ish rerub.  With individual releases on labels such as Defected, Code Red, Seasons Limited, CityDeep and West End; MKTL recent’s success of their underground rework of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Games’ created a dynamic duo.  Kev and Tony’s rework creeps into a hypnotic chugger with seductive chords, synths and stabs. Ellis’ celestial vocals lament the track tempting an out-of-body experience.  MKTL offers 2 additional mixes each stripping it down a bit more for the dubbier vibe to drop at the perfect time.

Sandman (alias of fluent musician and Louisiana native Sanford Rivers) joins forces with the enigmatic musical journeyman Jeremy Ellis (Ubiquity, Future Soul) on FastFWD’s seventh release “Into Your Story.” It’s a warm flashback to the sound of soulful house in the 90’s. Ellis, who has collaborated with fellow Detroit-izens Carl Craig, Alton Miller and Recloose and has remixed the likes of Jazzanova, Fertile Ground, and John Beltran grasps the microphone for his vocal and lyrical wizardry.

FastFWD label owner Riverside (with his own cadre of top releases including his instant classic remix of Windimoto’s “Afternoon in Rio”) delivers a remix intended to be reminiscent of some of the deeper cuts heard late at Shelter NYC. His interpretation is a smooth afro-soul mover penetrating with shuffled percussion, warbled pads, and a stirring feel vibing off of Ellis’ touch of vocal inspiration. For the Instrumental dub Riverside strips his remix of “Into Your Story” down to an outline with bullet points that emphasize the soulful house side of things.

Windimoto is Detroit-born dance music producer Scorpeze and Chicago House DJ Sean Haley. Their 2007 release of The Travels of Windimoto etched their moniker into the playlists of discerning DJs. Hot off the success of their recent release Beauty Within: Sinister Beauty Re-Imagined Windimoto re-unites with a chilled-out lovefest between Sandman’s vibe play, Ellis’ vocals, and their masterful arrangement of sultry ambiance and percussion. Scoville’s G-Ville Nights is a tribute to the glory days of the rave scene in Gainesville, Florida, where the legendary Simon’s grew to international acclaim.  With his debut release, rising talent Scoville transports us back to the big, boomin’ warehouse sound of the 90’s.  Scoville’s original mix of G-Ville Nights is for the lover of deep, dark structured layers of synths and pads that drive late into the wee hours of the morning.  Techno for an answer!

Washington, DC native and label owner, Riverside, teams up with musical maestro Sandmanfor the first of two tandem remixes of G-Ville Nights.  Riverside and Sandman are no strangers in their production partnership.  Previous releases include Latin Fire, Feed Your Mind and an upcoming remix of Windimoto’s Afternoon in Rio on their “Beauty Within: Sinister Beauty Re-Imagined”. Riverside and Sandman drop an old school gem a la Moodyman.  The intro builds with a nu jazz sound and develops into a deep house joint sure to get the dancefloor sweaty.  With lush chords providing a canopy over the original’s dark remnants, Riverside and Sandman tweak this number out with skillfully placed jazz influences and beat drops.   Sandman says, “No sleep til Gainesville!”

Riverside returns with fellow DC native and TrueGrooves front man, KidGusto, for this deep, dark, dank and funky rendition of G-Ville Nights.  KidGusto has appeared on labels such as Citrona, Bastard Jazz and Rhythm & Culture. His first full-length album, KG Originals, received universal acclaim from critics and fans alike.  “Like any song he [KidGusto] plays or makes has, in the words of James Brown, “got to be funky.”, this is no different.  KidGusto adds his signature dimension of percussive funk to the darkness of G-Ville Nights.  Riverside and KidGusto serve up some techno with a twist.

FastFWD music releases another dope project in “I See You.” Noted songwriter, producer John Beltran never disappoints as he lends airy, sexy vocals to the latest addition to the FastFWD repertoire. “I See You” is a full project, mixed, written, performed and produced by Beltran. The Lansing, Michigan native best known for his earlier techno work with Ubiquity and Om records, stays within that same vein of hard to categorize music yet adds a bouncy soulful vibe over groovy percussions making “I See You” a note worthy track even in its original state.

The sultry NuJazz RMX is smooth enough to serve as background ear libation for the lounge scene or pose as a dominating banger for the club. With a Rhodes solo by fellow Michigan native Jeremy Ellis aka Ayro, this pairing offers a saucy remix not too far removed from the original but kicked up just enough to make it so.

Rob Slac of Om Records and Chillin Music lends his signature sound to the lineup. His RMX takes you on a whimsical journey through sound. Its airy beats and looped hooks is a definite club banger!

Rounding out this collection of remixes is FastFWD music’s own Sandman and Riverside. This rendering offers a different spin from the NuJazz and Rob Slac renditions. Its layered affect builds upon sound adding affect one after another. In the end Sandman and Riverside still maintain the bouncy character of the original version, but with a more relaxed and sultry feel.

He followed up in 1996 on Peacefrog with arguably one of the most sought after techno classics “Ten Days of Blue,” which is still John’s most successfully licensed music with songs like “Collage of Dreams” being used in the Miramax film Human Traffic and the HBO hit Six Feet Under. His next project was entitled “The Cry” under the Placid Angles guise which MixMaster Morris charted as one of his favourite albums ever.

“Feed Your Mind” by Sandman feat. Jeremy Ellis by FastFWD

FastFWD records has generated another fire project this time teaming up with familiar sidekick, producer, songwriter Sandman, world renowned techno producer extraordinaire John Beltran with vocals on hand by Jeremy Ellis, producer and songwriter who has received worldwide acclaim for his work under his Ayro moniker.
Feed Your Mind is the latest installment to the FastFWD repertoire. A sexy prescription of analog synthesizers, pianos and keyboards mixed with a healthy dose of drum programming and finely wrought percussion is just what the dance scene needs in this down turn of contrived and over simplified tracks. Jeremy’s signature voice sends out a lyrical message of openness, freedom of expression and purification through music.
The Feed Your Mind Jeremy Ellis remix is choke full of break-beats. Easy enjoyment for the ear and fuel for the feet of any breaker or wild-styler.
This EP was played at several venues at the Winter Music Conference 2008.
FastFWD is no stranger to hits with such tracks as Sandman’s Latin Fire co-produced by FastFWD’s own Riverside which has received critical acclaim since it dropped in 2007 at the Winter Music Conference and a remixing of Rob Slac’s Goddess of Groove. 2010 is sure to be a productive year as FastFWD gears up for the release of I See You, a track by John Beltran due to drop in the Spring.
